"Jimmy why do you sound like that, what does that even mean?" Swan asked, sounding worried. Jimmy paused for a moment.
"I... I have to go, Swan. Goodbye." The call ended, along with Swan's heart. Something was wrong and he was not telling her. She called him again only to get the auto-machine voice 'The number you have dialed is-' Swan threw the phone across the room and shot a look at Teralyn who stood in silence.
"Why didn't you go after him?! Why didn't you just let medie?" She yelled at Teralyn, who didn't respond.
" I'm no one! Do you know how many people need him? Do you know how many people are going to be in pain because of he'll die? People don't need me, I always screwed up before! But he...he was there for me...and now I can't even be there for him!" Jimmy had helped her so many times, he always helped her, even when she didn't want it. But she forgave him now for that because he was right. He never noticed it, but Jimmy was always right about the ones who where closest to him. She promised herself she wouldn't love him, he had Michelle, but things did not work out that way. She loved Jimmy, even more than she loved William and certainly even more than she had loved Sydney.
The tears fell down her face like a waterfall'I love him.' She thought. 'I love him so, so much.'
"Since I woke up from the accident" She started again, the tears still falling. "I've been on borrowed time, time I never deserved." She reached out her arm to touch her back, her wings. Something she got but didn't deserve. Jimmy needed them.
"He needs it....I don't." She muttered.
"Swan, think this through..." Teralyn stated.
Swan closed her eyes and muttered, "Tell Celine I love her." Swan had disappeared.
Jimmy took a breath of air. How he was breathing now, he didn't know. He could feel his broken body being healed, painlessly, and strength poured into him. He opened his eyes and saw Swan over him, her hand on his chest. She seemed to glow in the dark, faintly, but enough to notice. Her wings out, radiating beauty in the dirty, dark, ally.
"Swan?" He said.
Swan smiled at him. "I don't have long Jimmy" She said. "I need to tell you something and you have to listen okay?"
Jimmy had so many questions to ask her, like how he was alive. But he stayed silent and listened to her anyways.
"I know," She started as if she was unsure of what she was going to say "you have Michelle. And I know how much you care about her, but I need to say this...before I go. Jimmy," A single tear fell down her face and her wings glowed brighter. "I love you." At that moment her wings shattered like glass and fell to the ground in pieces that faded as they touched the ground. She threw her head back in pain and collapsed to the ground.
Jimmy shot up to catch her. "Swan, SWAN!" He called.
She smiled at him again even though she was breathing heavy and in pain. "It's okay..." She managed. "It'll be..."
"Swan, don't do this for me." Jimmy pleaded, now knowing what she did. She gave up her immortality as an angel for him, and gave all that to him so that he could be alive and well... without her.
"I have to Jim," She said making him choke. "I'm sorry... so sorry," She breathed heavily again "to take this to tell you."
"Please, don't leave me." He pleaded, grasping her hand.
Tears formed in her eyes again. "I wish... I wish things c-could of been different."
"Please..." Jimmy begged again, losing hope. "Stay."
"Jimmy," She asked him.
"Don't let me go... until I... pass. Promise?"
"I promise." Anything, anything to spend more time with her. Tears came to eyes after he said those words.
Swan smiled as she closed her eyes. And after a moment Jimmy knew she had passed. "I love you, too." Oh why did it take him until now to say that? Why didn't he say that when she was still here? Jimmy buried his face into her shoulder and sobbed.
A few days had passed since Swan's death. Since then Jimmy had been different. He avoided a lot of people and was silent a lot. His younger brother, Josh, had even began to be worried for him. One day, Persephone appeared to him. Jimmy was not too shocked by this, a lot of the gods and goddesses appeared in the place where her worked, the government-run Supernatural Agency, time after time if their powers where needed to solve something that would be a problem to the mortal world.
"James," She said. "May I have a moment of your time?"
It felt weird to him when people used his real name, but didn't bother to correct her.
"Hmm?" He muttered, wondering what it could be.
"I understand Miss Menenoke passed last night...I am deeply sorry." She started.
Jimmy scratched the back of his head, even though he didn't have an itch. "Thanks," He mused.
"I could bring her back but I need you to answer the question I present to you next truthfully."
Jimmy looked up at her. "What is that?" He asked curiously.
"Do you love her?" She asked. Just that? That was all?
"Yes, I do." He replied quickly.
She nodded in response and asked another question. "I'm afraid the next one is more difficult to answer, are you ready?"
"Close your eyes and picture you are in a church."
Jimmy did this, but it was odd for him to think this. He had only gone to church when his parents where alive, but that stopped when they died when he was young.
Persephone asked, "At the end of the aisle there is a woman, who is she?"
Jimmy's jaw clenched. He loved his finace Michelle, but he loved Swan. What would happen if he picked Michelle? He'd be lying to himself that's what. But what would happen if he said Swan?
He thought about this for a moment and then awnsered truthfully, "Swan."
"She's waiting for you at your house." With that, Persephone faded. Jimmy ran home as fast as he could.
"Swan!" He yelled when he saw her.
She opened her eyes and sluggishly replied "Jimmy?
She tried to get to her feet but Jimmy picked her up and carried her inside and placed her on the couch. "Swan, are you alright?" He asked.
"I feel like I have the worst hangover of my life." She said.
Jimmy laughed slightly. "It'll pass," He told her.
"Am I....alive?" She asked him.
"Well of course you are!" He told her.
She looked relieved. "Oh, I.......I wasn't sure,"
Jimmy suddenly changed the subject with. "You didn't have to do that for me,"
"I did." She replied frankly. "Jimmy, you had done so much for me, it was the least I could do." She said with full honesty.
There was no point in arguing this. "I see..."
"I'm sorry..." She said. "for what I said before my wings shattered."
Jimmy remembered like it was only minutes ago. How she told him how much she loved him.
"But I do love you," He told her, with all on his honesty.
Tears feel down her face. "Jimmy don't say that."
Jimmy replied only with silence and Swan turned away from him, too guilty to even look at him.
"You are the nicest person I have ever met with a wonderful personality." Jimmy said, blushing.
"I thought that was Michelle." Swan said.
Jimmy's heart lunched at those words. There was a time when he had said those things about Michelle, it was why he loved her and cared about her. Had that changed now? Swan hugged him tightly "Please don't cry, Jimmy, You'll break my heart.
"I don't know what to do!" Jimmy told her.
"What does your heart say?" Swan asked him.
He paused to think for a moment. "I... I love Michelle but, I think I love you more except I don't want to hurt Michelle."
"I think it would hurt her if you didn't say anything, Jimmy."
Jimmy thought about this and noticed she was right. It would hurt all of them even more if he just suffered in silence.
"Jimmy?" She said, not like a question.
Swan reached her arms around his neck pulling him, down since he was quite tall, and kissed him firmly and passionately on the lips. This shocked Jimmy and he was already clueless on what to do and so worried about hurting Michelle that he only hugged her back in response.
"Too soon?" Swan asked, blushing with embarrassment.
"I should talk to Michelle first." He said looking at the ground.
Jimmy took a deep breath. He was at Michelle's door. Ready to end it, forever. She probably already knew, for she could read minds. Jimmy timidly knocked on the door.
"Jimmy!" It was Michelle. "Come in,"
"Um, Michelle I have something to tell you." He said very seriously.
Her face got very sad for a moment, but she tried to hide it. "That's what I thought."
Jimmy briefly explained the last few days to her. He had not been around Michelle since Swan resurrected him as an angel.
"You don't need to explain." Michelle said.
"No I do!" Jimmy responded. "It's just that, I always loved Swan but I never realized it till now..." He broke off, not sure what else to say.
"No, it's okay. Be happy." Michelle said with a smile. Jimmy looked at her. He knew she was dying inside, but pretending to be happy for him. So that he did not have to see her cry. When Jimmy thought this over, he expected her to cry and beg him to stay. He did not want this, but he expected it. For some reason her silence hurt him even more. "I... should go then." Jimmy said, not able to bear any more of her odd silence. Jimmy turned and left her house. He waited for a moment. When Michelle thought Jimmy had left, she started sobbing. Jimmy swallowed hard and left.
